When Apple unveiled iPad 2, it did not mention it and even the iPad 2 teardown has not indicated any possibility of Apple magically enabling the NFC feature in the future.
It looks like even iPhone 5, which is probably more ideal than iPad 2 for the “wave and pay” system may not get the NFC feature.
The Independent reports:
One source close to the discussions said: “The new iPhone will not have NFC, Apple told the operators it was concerned by the lack of a clear standard across the industry.” Yet Apple is understood to be working on its own NFC proposition, which would link payments through iTunes.Apple is apparently working to bring the NFC technology to iOS devices next year (2012), which would mean that it will be introduced in iPhone 6.
